MICRONEEDLING
What Is microneedling?
Microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) works by stimulating the production of new collagen in the skin. This is achieved by puncturing the skin with microscopic needles. The treatment utilises the skins ability to heal itself, in turn triggering the production of new collagen. In addition to treating pores, fine wrinkles, loss of elasticity, minor scarring (including acne scarring) and sun damage it also enables topical products to penetrate deeper into the skin, increasing their effectiveness. With minimal recovery time, microneedling is a fantastic option for many skin concerns. Please click here for further information on microneedling at Gossip Beauty.
Microneedling benefits
Microneedling has many benefits that can include:
-
Stimulating collagen production
-
Improving skin texture
-
Improving skin elasticity
-
Reducing fine-lines and wrinkles
-
Improving acne scarring (not suitable for active acne)
-
Smoothing and firming the skin
-
Treating pigmentation
-
Reducing pore size
-
Improving absorption of topical products
-
Minimal recovery time unlike laser or chemical procedures.
How does microneedling work?
Collagen is a protein that gives our skin its structure, working like a netting to hold skin cells together. It also gives skin a smooth and youthful appearance, as we have it in abundance when we are young. As we age, collagen starts to breakdown, which can lead to fine lines and wrinkles.
As the skin begins to repair itself, it turbo-charges the body’s natural ability to produce collagen. The tiny needles used in the procedure create microscopic channels in the dermis that stimulate that healing process.
The procedure improves skin texture, reduces the appearance of scars and creates a more youthful tone. It’s no surprise that this treatment has been hailed as a non-invasive way to achieve youthful, dewy looking skin.
Microneedling for acne scarring
Microneedling can be particularly effective when it comes to minimising the appearance of acne scars.
This is because the process encourages your skin to produce collagen to help heal the tiny wounds from the needle. This collagen production can help smooth the appearance of acne scars, leading to smoother-looking skin.
However, it’s not suitable for use on active acne as the needles will spread the bacteria in any inflammation, pimples and pustules, prolonging your breakout and potentially making it worse.
Microneedling downtime and recovery
Recovery time for microneedling is considered extremely short. Your therapist at Gossip Beauty will advise on downtime and aftercare during your consultation and aftercare discussion. The information provided by the therapist is what you should follow. However, as a guide the following is generally advised:
Sunscreen should be applied regularly to the skin. It is also important to avoid too much time in the sun post mIcroneedling and therefore microneedling is not advised too close to a holiday or expected intense sun exposure. Makeup should not be worn in the first 24 hours directly after microneedling. Any harsh skincare products should also be avoided and an increase in use of moisturising creams and serums is strongly advised. Heavy workouts or environments that cause heat to the skin should be avoided post microneedling. Overall, compared to other treatments, the recovery is minimal.
How will my skin feel immediately after microneedling?
You should expect the skin to feel mildly sunburnt for about 24hours after treatment with a slight red appearance and warm sensation. It could also start to flake after a day or two as the skins cells slough off. This is quite normal and part of the process. After around a week you should begin to see brighter, newer skin. Once again your therapist at Gossip Beauty will be able to guide further on this at your consultation/aftercare discussion.
Is microneedling painful?
Microneedling is not particularly painful .The most common sensation during the procedure is a warm, scratching feeling as the tool is moved around the face. You may also notice some pain on the “bonier” areas of your face, such as your hairline, forehead, and jawline. Generally, the deeper the penetration of the needles, the greater the sensation. When working at a greater depth (deep acne scaring) numbing creams can be used to reduce sensation. But generally this treatment is not considered to be a “painful’ procedure.
How much does microneedling cost?
Microneedling at Gossip Beauty starts at £95 for one session. One session takes around an hour to complete.
One session will deliver benefits, however, it is recommended to do a course of three treatments with an average of four weeks between treatments (although this varies based on client individual requirements).
A 3 session package starts at £260
